HISTORICAL SURVEY OF DEPARTMENT OF ARABIC LANGUAGE
An Arabic study was introduced for the first time in Lagos state college of primary education, Noforija-Epe as one of the courses offered at directorate of part-time studies (DPTS).
The next attempt was at pre-NCE level during 1998/99 session under the department of Islamic Studies, School of Art and Social Studies. The Department was granted full autonomy as Department on October 21st 1999 with ten transiting students from pre-NCE to NCE1 under Mr. M.A Shittu and late Mr. Lawal, M.A. (pioneer lecturers). Other senior hands who are specialize in Arabic Language we moved from Islamic Studies to the Department.
The National Commission for Colleges of Education; Abuja has conducted a resource visitation in the year 2001 and also conducted accreditation to the Department during the following years; 2003, 2007, 2010, 2014, and 2018 accordingly.
The Department has since inception embarked on academic outings such as field work & Acculturation to various Arabic Environment both at the National and International levels.
The headship of the department started with late Mr. Lawal, M.A. 1999-2001 followed by Otunuyi, A. K. T 2001-2004, Yusuf, T.O. 2004-2007, Shittu, M.A. 2007-2014, Ajape, K.O. 2014-2017 and Balogun K.Y. 2017 till date.
The academic staff strength has increased academically with two Ph. D. Holder with specialization in Arabic curriculum studies and Arabic language and literature.
